Weekend Update Part Two

On with the show...

So Saturday morning, my alarm clock walks in and tells me it is time to rise and shine.. Thanks Daddy!!

Normally on weekends , I have every desire to sleep in as late as possible and am unable to...This morning however, I did not want to budge.. But the entire family is going to turn out to this event, so I proceed to get ready...

I arrived at the designated location and proceeded to prepare for the race. The crowd is not as large, but I did however notice that these were very dedicated runners.. (I think I will stick with the charity events in the future.. Those participants are not so competitive)...

I managed to start nicely, even passing a few people ... There was a huge hill to climb and holy smokes, do you people even realize just how far FIVE MILES is... I did not..!! I pooped out after the 3 mile marker... Lots of walking this time.. I did manage to complete the race right at 55 minutes, which is the goal I set for myself.... My nephew pointed out that I was in 165th place....The rest of the family even chimed in about the 8 and 78 year olds that significantly beat me......

My SIL pointed out that I could have probably finished a lot quicker if I had not stopped to flirt with all those Policemen, which were blocking traffic.. And yes, there were quite a few of them!!!

The experience was a good one, but I think I will stick with the 5ks for awhile, at least until I become competitive enough...

After the race, we perused the antique car show and I ran into a friend, whom I had not seen in years.. It was good to catch up with him...(more details to follow)

We then dined out for lunch and had a lovely family visit.

So that about sums it up.....( I should really post these things sooner, to capture the moment better.! Oh, well.......

Marietta May Fair 5k

Today was my second attempt at participating in a 5k race and I almost missed it.

It was all I good do to drag myself out of bed and drive 46 miles....( I found out last night that there was a 5k in my town today....aghhhhhh.. It was not listed when I signed up for the one 46 miles away!)

This was the inaugural running of the Marietta May Fair 5k. So there were relatively fewer runners than my first 5k. I liked the larger event!! But this one was still wonderful. It was a Champion Cross Country Course... Very different from my first one. More hills..Fewer Officers :(..

It started out on asphalt, then down a dirt path, a quick jaunt through the woods (very nice), across a grassy meadow and then across a gravel parking area... It was a splendid run, with the exception of the gravel.... I am scared of running in gravel... Prone to twist the ankles!!

The best part of the race was the last 1/4 mile... There was a younger woman running about the same speed as me.. We stayed within 50 feet of each other the entire race.. You could say she was my motivation, and I , hers!! I was determined not to let her "get away".. She was determined to stay ahead!! The last 1/4, I was a few paces behind and nearing the finish, I turned it on a bit... As I caught up to her, she charges forward...hehehehhe ... It was so much fun.. As we approached the finish line, running as hard as we could the spectators were cheering like crazy!! It was AWESOME!! She finished first, but we both received the same time.. Thats how close it was... Damn near a photo finish after that mad sprint to the end...

We both placed 2nd in our respective age groups!! How awesome is that!! And when the awards were handed out, of course the judges had to make a comment on the way we turned it on at the end... "Now, that is how you finish a race!!"
Official Results: Second Place in 35-39 Group Time 30:14
I was very glad I had that birthday... The top finishers in the 30-34 group came in around 25 minutes.. And the top finishing female..... was 11 years old with a finishing time of just over 21 minutes...
Next UP~ Helen Keller Festival and 5 MILE Run!!

Round Two

In my quest for fitness, I had decided to participate (or try to) in at least one 5K run/walk each month.

The last one was such a personal victory for me....

Now I have officially registered for my 2nd event....

I think the 3rd one will be here, so I can actually have someone I know standing by applauding me on... Not to mention, when I visit my Father, we usually have lunch together here. It is sort of our little tradition...And he suggested this race...

Official Results

Okay, so I finally found the official results posted on last weeks 5K.

Out of 364 women, I came in 180th.... Not bad for my first attempt, don't ya think.

Official Time- 33:48

Oh, and by the way.... This weekend I was feeling exceptionally motivated and stepped it up a notch.. I was able to run an entire 5 miles...Took about an hour, so I am good for a solid 12 minute mile.

Jonquil City Jog 2007

My first official 5K complete and boy, am I ever motivated now..

Just a quick recap of the event.

Proof I was there, and yes all of these individuals were registered to run!! It was quite a large gathering by my standards.

See the kid on the right..... He finished first in the 1 Mile Fun Run.... He finished in 5:36... Holy Cow. When I was an avid runner back in high school, I may have dipped below the 6 minute mark, but just barely.. And this guy was only 11 years old.. I may have just had a brush with greatness... Hmmm, Future Marathon Winner...? The only flaw that I noticed in the whole ordeal, was that this kid passed the Police Escort (twice)... you know, the one leading the procession.... It surprised the Cop and he bobbled on his motorcycle... hee hee. Oh and the people in the blue jerseys.... That was the purpose of this event.... Fundraiser for the Local High School Athletic Club...

Now this was just precious... The Toddler Trot... There were even a few actual toddlers participating in this 100 yd dash...

Here you see the oldest registered participant.. Of course he won the category for his age group! He was 84 years old! WOW.. And his wife, well she finished 2nd in her group..Age 75-79... Also running in the family were his son, seen here, and also his granddaughter... Talk about a family affair. I asked him how long he had been participating in these events . He said he has been running for 35 years.. Ummm, that makes him 49 when he started! See, its never too late to start...

And finally, just a little eye candy for me... Man, these guys were all over the place....and oh how I loves me a man in uniform!!!!!

Thank You, Thank You very much!!

Just a quick post for anyone stopping by to catch an update!!

Yes, I did it!! I did not notice my finishing time.... But holy cow, I actually ran all of it but about 1/10 of a mile....

I feel so alive!! I am so going to pursue this!!

I will update this later on this evening, because on my way to the race, I noticed that the Georgia Renaissance Festival was in town!! Plus more sofa shopping!! So my day is going to be very active.... I will resume Procrastinating tomorrow, for those of you who might have been concerned.

Can you believe it.. I just freaking ran 3 miles!! Who Knew!!
