D'oh

Sometimes people really amaze me !!

This week somebody had this really brilliant idea on how to get rich quick, so to speak. Some time during the weekend an individual decided to sneak into our yard and steal a loaded trailer full of aluminum. I have no idea how they got it out of the neighborhood, but somehow they managed to. The neighborhood is hard enough to get a bobtail through, I couldnt imagine draggin a trailer through it. Of course they had to take the back roads to avoid security. After successfully stealing the load, they traveled less than a hundred miles and began to unload the trailer onto a less commercial vehicle and proceed to the scrap yard to sell it off.

Really ?? There is something about virgin aluminum that screams "this is stolen". Our plant was notified immediately and the most of the load was recovered. But seriously, if you are going to steal 40k of aluminum, do you really think it is wise to try and sell it immediately in the local vicinity of which it was stolen.

Yes, people continue to amaze me !!

Well, I'm surprised it hasn't happened before this! Glad to hear it was recovered. The economy the way it is and the stealing of metals from every place possible is a sure sign of the condition we're all in. People are stealing the pewter vases from cemeteries even and taking them to the local recycling plants. Sure hope the job market can recover, so everyone can go back to work to feed their families again.

It is has happened before, but just not directly out of the plant. The fellow was very brave, but incredibly stupid.

Wow, how did make that turn out the gate? Guess those people back there don't pay any attention to the yard.I found something you will like. Remember the guy who videotaped you on Monteagle?

Thanks for the link.. I cant stop laughing. First he got me for 70+ plus down MontEagle (BS) and then he got me going through Atlanta tailgating. I still have the tape and his commentary is way off base !! LOVE IT !!!!!!

Yeah, that guy should be on "Smoking Gun: The World's Dumbest Hijacker". If that was bad, this story I got is crazy. Our rail company was having large size reels of copper wire stolen off the property to be sold as scrap. An alert owner of a recycling center reported to the rail company about the copper since it was in pretty good condition and several serial number didn't match up. An investation led to about half a dozen employees being fired and charged with theft and selling stolen property. They used a flatbed boom truck to take the copper reels, then off load them to different scrap dealers and recycling places; only one place followed up on it in case the sale was legit.
